WHEN THE DOCTOR SPEAKS

“Expertise is the key in Cosmetic Surgery, but it won’t be gained if wisdom will not be passed from mentors to students, colleagues to colleagues. We should capitalize on learning in order to further our craft. What we know should be pooled, shared and imparted for the betterment of the craft and its practitioners.”

Dr. Alonzo has been practicing his profession as an expert cosmetic surgeon since 1987. His experiences entitled him to more than 26 years of active utilization of his professional work. Though it is undeniable that he already accomplished so much, he decided to advance his skills by taking post-graduate studies and attending specialized conventions and seminars here and abroad.

Throughout the years, he juggled his career attending to his patients and at the same time nurturing BEAUFACES as one of the most trusted cosmetic surgery clinics in the Philippines. As he earned a name for himself and the clinic, more opportunities were opened to him. He was invited in local and international seminars, not only as a participant, but as an esteemed speaker.

Lately, last April 2013 he spoke about “ Dimple Plasty” in the 1st Gender Aesthetic Congress Asia 2013 and “Penile Enlargement” in the 1st Sexual Aesthetic & Surgery Congress Asia 2013 at Marina Bay Sands Convention Center, Singapore. In 2005, he spoke about “Nipple Reduction” in the 5th World Congress of Asian Pacific Academy of Cosmetic Surgery in Tokyo, Japan, while in 2004, he talked about the “Surgical Treatment of Hyperhydrosis” during the 1st International Congress on Advanced Cosmetic Surgery in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Dr. Alonzo also devotes his time in accepting invitations to speak and perform live demonstrations in local gatherings. The most recent talks he participated in are the Scientific Meeting of Pan Pacific Aesthetic Institute with the topic “Management of Hematoma Post Breast Augmentation,” the Pan Pacific Aesthetic Institute where he conducted a Live Surgical Demonstration on Butt Augmentation and the Philippine Academy of Aesthetic Surgery where he did a live demo workshop of Body Contouring.

Dr. Alonzo’s colleagues testify that the good doctor is very generous in imparting his wisdom and expertise in cosmetic surgery. Dr. Alonzo, on his part, shares, “You should not keep what you know just for yourself. You have to share it to others and contribute to the development of fellow surgeons and the craft as a whole.”

As Dr. Alonzo confessed, cosmetic surgery is and will always be his first love. That is why he takes extra effort to allot his time to several radio and television shows that will introduce this technology to more people. When somebody first invited him to be interviewed in a TV show, he quickly said yes without hesitation. “We need to enlighten people that cosmetic surgery is safe and harmless. Unlike general surgery, my specialization does not pose patients under pressure situations. We don’t have to deal with life or death situations,” he clarifies.

If there is another skill that makes up a good cosmetic surgeon apart from his expertise, it’s probably a special kind of generosity---the openness to share your wisdom with a desire to build a stronger foundation for fellow cosmetic surgeons in the field. Dr. Alonzo is more than blessed to have the expertise and the generosity to share this expertise to others---this is a truth that his colleagues can attest without second thoughts.
